Faithful in the Process
I'm currently sitting at the beach, feeling lost, with many thoughts swirling in my mind. Deep questions ebbing and flowing, carrying shallower questions on top about the Lord. What is truth, and what is a lie? I wondered if the Lord would meet me here while seeking comfort from the sound of the waves to soothe me. To feel so much, then to feel nothing. To feel confident, then to feel insecure. Ebbing and flowing in me.
When I first sat down to watch the waves, this came to my mind—just going to let it flow.
We came here with nothing, and with nothing, we shall leave. The only thing that comes with us is what we cultivate in our relationship with the Lord. Our obedience produces rewards in heaven.
Look at the water. It is timelessly and consistently faithful to its task. Its faithfulness creates an environment to process and refine the stones. Wearing away the rough edges, bringing out their beauty.
The once large and jagged rocks have worn down to more desirable, smooth, polished stones. This makes me think of the sanctification process as the Lord works on us, refining us and removing our rough edges. The more refined we become, the more polished we reveal our hidden beauty.
The proud waves stay within the boundaries the Lord gave them. They show off their strength and bow back down to do it all over again. Its obedience to the boundaries allows water creatures to live in their environment, blissfully unaware of the vastness above the water.
Job 38:11 NLT
“ I said, ‘This far and no farther will you come.
Here your proud waves must stop!’”
The water doesn't get bored in its task, for its water. But if you were to think water is like people, then think about how the molecules of water move around the earth, obedient to its time and place. Water, as creation, is consistently faithful to its task. This simple obedience allows it to be used in mighty ways.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
What else can I offer my children who consistently demonstrate faithfulness in their spiritual growth? Being faithful and consistent is key to success in the laws of reaping and sowing that govern the earth. Be wise where you sow and what you sow. Don't give up plowing or look back; in due time, you will reap a harvest.
“ So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
The choice is yours, how you live your life on earth. You came with nothing, and you will leave with nothing except what you have sown in your relationship with the Lord through obedience.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap”
