Matthew 21:22 NLT
21 Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”

This story came to me while spending time with the LORD, reflecting on faith stories I have heard over the years and experienced myself. I often hear and see this type of story when he tries to teach me something.

April 30, 2025

A teacher said to his disciples who had gathered around him in his living room.

"Show me how big your faith is in prayer."  You can pray for anything, but the only condition is that you have the faith to believe it.

Some people pray big, impossible, mighty, creative, and engaging prayers.

Others prayed for healing in the body.

One wanted it to rain and grabbed an umbrella, waiting for the rain.

Another surrendered everything to the Lord, drinking a cup of tea in faith to rest, believing the Lord would fight this battle.

Then, the last disciple said their prayer after much thought. "Lord, I am thirsty. Thank you for a cup of water to drink in Jesus' name, amen.” Then they sat down.

Everyone in the group was surprised by such a tiny, insignificant prayer. The teacher was puzzled and went to the kitchen to grab a cup of water, then handed it to the thirsty disciple.  When they gave the cup to the disciple, the teacher asked, "How come you prayed such a small prayer when you were asked to demonstrate your faith?"

“How come you prayed such a small prayer when you were asked to demonstrate your faith?”

After drinking the cup of water, the disciple replied. “I thought about praying a big, God-sized prayer that only he could do. Who wants to pray boring things anyway? I have faith in that and have prayed like that before. I wanted to show more faith than that.”

The teacher was perplexed: “How do you reckon that your prayer took more faith than the bigger prayers?”

The disciple replied, “I was reminded of when the Lord used only three water droplets to get my attention to minister to someone by the lake. He used one drop of water each time he was getting my attention. I was in awe that such a big, powerful, mighty God could do anything with such fine control of his power and might and only needed three fine drops of water to achieve his goal.

I was in awe that such a big, powerful, mighty God could do anything with such fine control of his power and might and only needed three fine drops of water to achieve his goal.

While thinking about how he can use the small things and how big he is, I realized this: It's easy to pray big prayers that appear more challenging and interesting for a big God to work with. How much more faith will it take to believe that he will care about the small, mundane, insignificant things in life, like a cup of water?”

How much more faith will it take to believe that he will care about the small, mundane, insignificant things in life, like a cup of water?

The disciple returned the empty cup to the teacher, who was contemplating what the disciple had said. He handed him the cup and said, "See how quick he answered my prayer; thank you for the water. Glory to God."

Mark 9:23 NKJV

23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

Luke 1:37 NKJV

37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Psalm 139:7-10 NKJV

Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
